E&P BLOCKS OF IRAN
The Lurestan area is located in northwestern part of the Zagros fold and thrust belt and is limited to southeast by the Bala Rud Fault Zone (which separates it from the Dezful Embayment). NIOC is offering 2 blocks in this area.
Zahab block is situated in the northwest Lurestan close to the Iranian-Iraqi border.The northern part of the block is mainly dominated by long linear anticline whereas the southern part of the block is a part of the Zagros foredeep where only Neogene strata are exposed. The Middle Jurassic-Middle Cretaceous sequences of Lurestan region which are the Gotina, Sargalu and Garau Formations (evaporites and shales) act as decollement horizons. Recent discoveries in Iraqi side indicates the prospectively of the Triassic Jurassic succession in the area.
Timab Block is situated in the South West Lurestan and is limited to the southeast by Bala Rud Fault Zone which separates the Lurestan from Dezful Embayment.
|The main plays in Zahab block in Lurestan area would be Triassic-Jurassic successions. The main plays in Timab block is the Cretaceous carbonates of Bangestan group is the which charged by Garau and Kazhdumi source rocks and sealed by the Upper Cretaceous Gurpi Formation.
Totally 8 structural traps have been identified in Lurestan blocks. The unsuccessful well Kasra-1 was drilled in Zahab block with minor shows of gas in Jurassic succession. The Changuleh oil field is situated in vicinity of Timab block.
