E&P BLOCKS OF IRAN
Dezful Embayment is the most prolific sub zone within the Zagros folds and thrust belt. NIOC is offering 1 block in this area.
|Abadan block is situated in the southern Dezful –Abadan Plain sub zones where Asmari formation still not exposed and formed in the foot of the Mountain Front Fault and thick post Oligo-Miocene sediments are accumulated in this foredeep basin .The area is dominated by NW- SE trending anticlines which are host for several giant and super giant oil fields. existence of several local detachment levels activated during deformation influenced the wavelength, amplitude and style of folding.
The southern Dezful was clearly influenced by deep-seated pre-existing north–south Pan-African trends. These faults were reactivated most strongly during the Late Cretaceous.
|The main play in Dezful area comprises of Oligo-Miocene carbonates (Asmari Formation) and Cretaceous Carbonates (Bangestan and Khami Groups) which have been charged by the Kazhdumi, Garau and Sargalu source rocks.
Totally 3 structural traps have been identified in Abadan Block. Moreover four stratigraphic traps have been detected in which formed in relation to Pan-African N-S trends.
Two commercial oil fields have been discovered within the block producing from Asmari and Bangestan reservoirs. The undrilled reservoir targets in these field also could be regarded as future exploration targets.
